Behind the Scenes in Kansas: Day One in Wichita
As many of you may already know thanks to the beauty of social media, Shawn and I just returned from the state of Kansas where we were filming non-stop for four days. We had the opportunity to meet some really incredible people and hear some previously unheard stories while we were down there, and we even managed to see some hidden treasures from Louise's past. Join us for these next few posts where we will let you in on some of the details, mishaps and adventures that we two filmmakers were beyond lucky to have experienced.
DAY ONE: BASELINE CREATIVE, LOUISE'S DANCE STUDIO, STAN FARLEY, AND MUTE CHARLOTTE
Our first day was February 14th, Valentine's day, and started off with a trip to Louise's old dance studio on Hillside and Douglas, which is now the location of Baseline Creative Inc. We were joined by our dear friend and researcher, Stan Farley, who gave us the whole rundown on the architecture and renovations done to the building. The space is barely changed, with original molding and what Stan was quick to remind us could have been "the same floors Louise Brooks danced on." Everyone at Baseline Creative was lovely.
Side note- through all of this I had crazy laryngitis that rendered me completely unable to speak, which led to our next adventure: Shawn and Charlotte go to Via Christie Hospital! A little girl almost threw up on Shawn and I got to wear a super cool surgical mask. After that, we went to get Mexican food to cheer us both up, which worked because Shawn burned himself on a taco and I have it on camera forever. Happy Valentine's Day to me!
